Though Salman is a goon, he has certain rigid rules and principles, that he follows strictly, which leads for an enmity with another mafia don in the town.

The family and the town are unable to decide who is real and who the impostor, as both look like twins, so they decide to approach the king and do his bidding. The question remains, who is the second Kishanlal and what possible motive could he have for coming to claim Lachchi as his wife?

Diya (Madhuri Dixit) is a divorced mother living in New York and must go back to India after she receives news that her dance guru is on his deathbed. When she arrives in Shamli, a small city in western Uttar Pradesh, she finds that he has died and left her the responsibility of saving and reviving the Ajanta Theater where she used to dance. (In reality, there is an Ajanta Theatre in Shamli which inspired the writer of the film.)

The problem is that a political leader (Akshaye Khanna) wants it torn down and turned into a shopping mall. The storyline follows Diya and her challenge to stand up for what she believes in and fight for the cause to the end, while trying to win back the love and support of the people of the town whom she walked out on ten years ago.

“Udaan” which revolves around the story of Rohan (Rajat Barmecha), a teenage boy, who returns home after spending loathing eight years in a boarding school. He finds himself suffocating under his authoritarian father who forces him to work in his father’s steel factory and study engineering against his wishes, thus leading to Rajat Barmecha’s abandoning the house to pursue his dream of becoming a writer.

Co-produced by Anurag Kashyap, Sanjay Singh and UTV Motion Pictures, this small budget drama features many popular TV stars like Ronit Roy and Ram Kapoor.

“What ‘3 Idiots’ has said, this film will take that forward. The perception of people is changing in society. Kashyap said, "Udaan has a good story to tell.

Talking about the film, Motwane says, “a very simple, straightforward film… more than that it’s a very emotional film. It’s about a boy’s journey. The father wants the son to do something and the son wants something different and what happens at the end of the film is the culmination of that relationship.”

“My script was ready in 2003. It took five years to take the picture off the ground. It took so long to get producers, as no one was ready to take the film. It might be because in 2003, multiplexes were not in existence. Today it has become easier…,” he added.

“Udaan” was selected for the Un Certain Regard category at the 63rd Cannes International Film Festival this year.
